LOCH PARK ADVENTURE

A couple of weeks ago James Mark who knows the people who run the Loch Park Adventure Centre at Drummuir ask if we might be allowed to fly some of our models from the water, the answer was "yes" and would we be interested in flying some models after the charity raft race on the 15th of August, to this James replied "yes" but we would need to have a trial run beforehand to see if it was OK. James contacted Ian Ross and myself and told us the news, we both said great! with Ian saying although I've got a water-plane and have flown it at the site I've never flow off water. I said I'm in, but I've. seen Loch Park when I used to help at Clay Shoot there. "It's Long but It's not very wide", "If memory serves me, we might be struggling a bit". James came back with, "But the wind won't bother us", it's right down in a valley so as long as we don't go above the trees there won't be any. We all agreed we should go for a recce, which we did a few nights later. From this we decided it will be possible so myself and Ian were to await James's call for a trial run. James also said I suppose I'll need some floats for my plane won't I. To this i replied don't worry I think I know where I can get some. "which I did". We got the call and agreed to meet at Loch Park on Friday evening 7th August to give it a bash, Ian with his Seamaster, James with his WOT 4 (and floats) and myself with a foamy PBY Catalina (electric) which I have never managed to get to fly as it's always been underpowered.

It was a lovely still evening, not a ripple on the water. "But TREES, WATER & No WIND" what do you get ? "you've got it" "MIDGES" hungry little suckers aren't they. So a few midge bitten flights later by us all  with no real problems apart from Ian's close encounter with a small island when he was landing " which he got away with, with no damage" it was an enjoyable experience, James flew for the first time off water and did a roll. "the WOT 4 flying very well". Ian's first time off water, "nearly his last", managed a loop and a roll and I "after previous changes to engines and a whopping big 14.4 volt 4,000 Ah battery" managed to fly the Cat very gracefully. So it's charge up the battery's and prepare for Saturday the 15th when we will be flying after the Raft Race.

Any club members wishing to join us are very welcome, with your plane or just to help. Contact Ian or James for details.

PS. We will be organizing future club splash-ins there soon, so members "Get some floats on those planes" and join in the fun.
