LOCH PARK ADVENTURE CHAPTER TWOOn Saturday evening 15th of August Ian Ross, James Mark and
myself where again at Loch Park, Drummuir, Hopefully to give a flying
demonstration to the people attending the Raft Race earlier. unfortunately the
wind was quite strong with heavy gusting making flying almost impossible, James
who had been there most of the day helping with the raft race was egged on by
loyal supporter Andy Milne and his wife to show us all how to fly off water,
which James promptly did. but from the discussion we had later when everyone had
left he decided shortly after take-off that this was not a good idea, despite
battling with the wind he managed a short flight and a acceptable landing but
when he turned to taxi back to the landing stage the wind decided to flip him
over, "rescue number one". when all the people were away, we
decided to stay a little longer to see if the wind would drop, it lost some of
it's ferociousness for a short time in which I decided to fly the Catalina.
We were all surprised how well it handled the wind and I had a real good flight
and a good landing, but during the taxi back to the landing stage my speed
controller's cut-out overheated and stopped.
Despite the lack of good flying weather and the tooth holes in the nose of the Catalina we had a good blether, a good laugh and the drive to want to do it all again. Hopefully at a club event with a reasonable turnout of members. (I hope you have enjoyed this short account "the editor")
